Hugo Chavez just won re-election with 61% of the vote. He seems to be most concerned with making Venezuela more egalitarian. His approach challenges the US view of economics for Latin America. The US model has not brought prosperity to the region. Maybe his ideas will be more successful. Maybe he will fail. He was elected to try. Perhaps it would be better to engage him in dialogue and wish him well rather than force him into the company of Iran and Syria.
Chavez is at most a minor irritant in the big picture. He may have said something about Bush's breath, but that is just rhetoric and politicians have thick skins. Not causus belli material unless one is looking for a pretext to steal oil.

Unlikely.

Most of the Major conflicts have been for economic reasons.....Oil is a great example. Chavez will rant and warn and perhaps threaten.

Except for the Cuban Missile crisis, Cuba was nothing more than an irritant.

Except for Extremists....Fanatics. There is no value for a country to wage a large war any longer. One Nation is dependent on the economies of all other Nations.

Who could have predicted the Changes within China or the collapse of the USSR.

Slowly, we will see NATO expand and become the Peace keeping force in the world, I believe. NATO at this moment is preparing to have 10,000 combat ready troops that can be on station from 2 weeks to 4 weeks time, any where in the world.

The challenge for the United States of America will be to pick those battle that are in our economic and National security interests.

Chavez, that name should be spelled trouble. What he said about our President Bush of the United States of America was totally out of order. Only someone that practices or knows something about the devil and devil worshipers could even think of something like that. Bottom line Chavez has taken his stand , with the devil. Why? Because simply put, he knows so much about how the devil smells and where he is. For Chavez to have said something as morally bad and without reason, as he did about our President Bush, qualifies him to be wicked. He wrote the end of his own life story; although we must remember The Triune God is full of grace and mercy so, also according to the written word of God, if one repents, which means: have a change of heart and mind, and turn from his wicked ways, there is hope for him; if he repents before he leaves his body. If Chavez does not, at that point there shall be no hope for him according to Gods' written word, Chavez will have his place in the lake that burns with fire, that was created for the one he knows the smell of so well. I typed this message, because that is what Gods' written word states. One always must remember the Triune God is the final Judge and, God judges according to His wrtten word becasue that is what God has given to us and our children, all we need do is believe the work Jesus Christ did on the cross and why, and accept that as the truth that it is, then we shall and are saved; Because Jesus Christ paid the price.

The new trend in Central America seems to be moving towards democracy and cleaning up the government. Chavez has actually allowed U.S. spec-ops missions inside Venezuela but I don't think that he's a completely clean guy. Hopefully his country wisens up and follows example. If not, well, it won't be too hard to deal with them. Venezuela still lacks the kind of infrastructure to be a threat to most nations, especially the United States. You've got to feed people before you can send them to war.

Yup. Only I dont believe Castro ever hoped to. He just wanted independence for his own people. He got it even though we punished him for years for wanting it. And still his regime survived.

Chavez on the other poses a real threat. I think we should go take Venezuela and their oil. Can you spell n"C-O-U-P"? Haha
