If you want to be a good boss, listen to the questions and concerns of your employees. They may be able to help you. Never expect them to do something that you wouldn't do yourself and make it an environment that is healthy and enjoyable. If people don't like coming to work, they won't. Everyone is going to have "issues" at work at some point in time or another but as long as they are treated fairly and with respect, then those issues won't seem so large. Also, as much as possible, treat everyone equally. Don't play head games with your employees, they won't appreciate it and eventually they will lose all respect for your authority. You know boss spelled backward to most people is double s.o.b.!!! Don't allow that to happen. Keep your standards high and the stress levels low and you'll do fine!!!

You have no friends as a boss. You are the boss. If they do good. Tell them. If they do bad or unacceptable work tell them in private. Never ever yell or holler at an employee. If what they did wrong requires that kind of a reaction. Dismiss them & find somebody else less stress on you. If you are stressed so are your employees. You need to have good patience & communication skills. Be able to seperate to fact from fiction in all matters. Don't make snap judgement without thinking about it first. Defend your employees even when they are wrong. Just let them know later that they were wrong & guide them back on the path. Understanding your employees needs & wants. Everybody is different. You are different, I am different. You can help them in supervising their jobs & task. When things go wrong everything lands on your desk. How you treat people is very important especially at this time. Don't allow gossip in the office. If they want off & you will be short staff & need them say sorry pick another day. You can't please all the people All the time. Never argue with Idiots. They drag you down to their level & beat you with experience. Good Luck.

As a boss, I always keep in mind what kind of boss I would like to have. Someone who treats me fairly and with respect. If I do something wrong they explain it to me, and if I do something right they dont take credit for it, but let me know that I did a good job.

Try to be fair, but unfortunately there is always going to have to be different rules for different people. Most important make it clear that YOU are the boss and NEVER let anybody walk all over you or else you will never be effective

First of all, don't do the things our previous bosses did, that was really scary, like running down the hall, slamming things, and saying f this and f that,,,only coming one day a week, and then sleeping at there desk, while you do their job, and yours, and the other two people's job because noone showed up because they hate their boss so much, and mmmmm talking down, and slow to you, like your a dumm butt or something

Compliment the employees on their strong points and help them set and reach goals. Remember your employees can be your greatest resource. Be respectful of your employees. If you need to address something negative or touchy, do it in private. Don't be a cheapskate. Learn every bit of work that you are supervising, then you will have the respect of those you'boss'.
