You have to live in a acting-oriented area (i.e. NY or Hollywood) and you have to be a good actor/actress. After that, you have to go audition for anything you're interested in. This is the time where everyone gives up b/c so many people want to be actors and there aren't that many parts available so if you really want it you have to be dedicated. You also should have an actual paying job so that you can support yourself through your endeavours. After you finally get a part (your first one will be something like a commercial for hemmoroid cream) you'll SLOWLY begin to get more and more noticed with each successive role. Eventually you'll make it into a movie and from there you just need to make it into a blockbuster hit and get yourself some fans and recognition. After ALL THIS you MIGHT just have broken into the industry...
However, this isn't very likely...There's a reason celebrities are as popular as they are--they're the ones who made it.
Either way, good luck! and never stop dreaming! People who don't have dreams don't have much else... :-)

I've been studying actors for some time now and I have my own theory on why some succeed and most don't. First of all talent does help. If you have no talent you will not get far. Second, you need to have an iron clad resolve that this is it, there is no other field for you. Once you have the determination you need a thick skin. Actors get turned down daily. You CANNOT take this personal. The most famous actors got turned down more than everyone else but they had a drive that made them overlook that. After that it's a matter of not giving up no matter how long it may take before you get any roll not just your big break. There are actors who have studied acting extensively and those who just walked into an audition by mistake but all of them at some point had to move to NYC or LA and do some crappy job like bartending to pay the rent or live on a friend's couch until they made it. Look up how others made it and find inspiration from them. But make sure you are acting to express yourself not just to become famous. If becoming famous is your motivation just do a reality tv show and move on. You won't have the stamina to be a true artist.

Get every bit of the best training you can afford, work as often as you can, and learn how to do something else to make sure you can eat and have a roof over your head.
If you are better at ANYTHING else than you are at acting - do that, and give up on acting.

Find a great acting teacher and take acting lessons for 10 years. After that, you may be able to audition for theaters in your city.
