I used to have an ocd, of washing. I used to have to shower about 6+ times a day. I'd be out somewhere & have to go home & shower, thought I was dirty all the time & I wasn't. It was horrible! In the end, I realised I had a problem, I just forced myself to not shower so many times a day & waste water, cut down to 2 a day. Also I got a job where I couldn't jusst leave & shower. I just sortof made it get worse then I got better...

Try speaking to a psychologist. Also hypnotherapy is meant to be very good for those kind of things. Hope this helps. Good luck with everything.

I have it, and my mother has it.

We have not sought treatment but I hear that cognitive therapy works best... you are supposed to practice holding off on the compulsion until your anxiety builds and gradually you become used to the anxiety. Eventually, you become able to tolerate the anxiety and refrain from doing the action.

I am able to keep my compulsion in public to an absolute minimum by focusing on something else and keeping my mind busy, but at home I do not have much control over it. My mother, however, does her actions in public because she cannot control it as well. I feel bad for her because it's so embarassing and often you don't know your doing it until someone looks at you funny.
