In some ways they're saying the same thing, the pure mind is the connection to the Sacred (God, Heaven). However, the SMM quote is much clearer and direct in it's meaning. It's not so wrapped up in semantics. I find the Buddhist quote rather vague. I had to read it several times before I grasped the concept, but the SMM quote was clear immediately.

I would say the SMM quote is closer to the Sacred.

By the way, I'm sure the word God was capitalized in the original...
