There aren't any bad ones! Weight about 8-9lbs. Make sure you get the pick-ups you want. some have loads of gain, some sound real clean. There are some different neck radius and shapes also. Think before you spend that kind of cash you ought to look at PRS too.

I hate the weight and the thickness of that brick of a body the Les Paul has.

For my Les Paul, I bought a Gibson "THE PAUL II"

I don't suggest the original "THE PAUL" because it doesn't have the carved body and it doesn't feel right.

You can get a good used "The Paul II" on ebay for $300 to $400.

Dude, i think there are no bad things from the guitar named Gibson especially the Les paul custom. They made it perfectly. So i think the most important characteristic is you must feel it with your heart when you ready to buy it. Play it with your heart and feel it, it's ok or not. You can decide it in the best way. Try it with your heart. ok

I have three Gibson less Paul's but my favorite is my 1960s classic. The neck is fast if you like rock music, and it runs about $1600. I just installed Zakk Wylde signature pickups in it and it sounds unbelievable.
