I think you have got some idea about what a Wacom tablet is. Well, if you want to buy one then I can give you some suggestions. If you don't use full arm movements in drawing/painting you can go for a Wacom Intuos3 6 X 8. Most of the artists prefer this size only. If you have a widescreen monitor then go for Intuos3 6 x 11. I have recently bought an Intuos3 6 x 11 alogwith Samsung Syncmaster 205wb 20" widescreen LCD monitor for drawing of my cartoons. I really love them!!

It's the most amazing piece of computer hardware I've ever had the pleasure of using, and it's invaluable if you're going into any sort of visual art field and plan to use a computer, particularly if you're doing anything involving digital painting/illustration.

It's better for you in the long run than a mouse since you don't have to strain your hands to do anything, and it offers high-precision pointing with barely a movement. They're also extremely sturdy pieces of equipment--Mine still works perfectly after three years, despite being dropped, thumped, knocked around in luggage and generally scuffed up despite my best efforts to protect it. I'm using it right now, in fact, and they're incredibly delightful!

If you buy one, here's a word to the wise: the "old" wacom intuos 2 works just as well as the intuos 3, for less than half the price of the latter. Like I said, tablets last pretty much forever, so if you can find an intuos 2 in working condition then I'd say go for it. Also, the bigger the surface space the better. The 6x9 is a good size; it's compact, and you don't bump edges like you would on a smaller model.

Wacom is a brand of tablet. A tablet is a little pad-like thing that sits on your desk and it comes with a pen that you use to write on the pad. Though the writing (or drawing) shows up on the screen of your computer. It also often comes with a mouse. Both the pen and the mouse are battery-less.

It's a tablet that sits on your desk and comes with a special "pen" and mouse for it and you have more control over things that you do in like for instance Photoshop. You can draw on it digitally, paint on it lots of stuff.... I have one myself because I do a lot of photo enhancing/retouching.
