i had a hard time to start my PC. i pushed the start botton, and pc will run for a second then its power cut off. After that system's power is off, i had to disconnect the the power cord from the wall, and do it again. it took me 5-6 times to get the computer start. However, when i disconnet the power from the SATA hard drive, the power would not cut off. So, what is the problem? the hard drive or the power supply?

Did you Check the CPU it on the motherboard. If that baby get hot. It will shut down immediately. You know all them fan blow right down on it to keep it cool. Is the fans working, Is the coil clog. I don't think it the power supply but it could be the hard drive. Take it out and see if you can put it in another computer and read the file out of it. If not it gone.

If the hard drive is not new and has worked before:
It sounds like one of the pins in the hard drive has shorted. The power supply will automatically shut down if this occurs.

When you turn the computer on, get into the bios (usually by hitting F2 or F10 on bootup). If the computer stays on while then the power supply is fine.

If the hard drive is brand new:
New hard drives have different power requirements then older ones. They either require more power/less power, or a steady stream of power. I would need to know the specs of the motherboard/power supply/and hard drive and I can help you further.

Harddrives (HDs) have shifting areas, so they do no longer final long plenty, often around 5 - 7 yrs, some could final 10 yrs (as to mine), and a few could die even in the past than that, relies upon on the form you utilize them. besides, your HD has indicated that it quite is having situation. Whenver you spot that blunders, you may respond speedy, by backup the datas to a distinctive area, CD, DVD, yet another HD, on line backup, etc. maintenance could easily value you extra desirable than figuring out to purchase a sparkling device. however the real situation is the memories trapped on the no longer ordinary force. in case you have photos there, or substantial information, they are worth saving. you're able to do extra harm to the no longer ordinary force. as a replace, i might turn to a restoration provider. Many centers, including Ontrack, Iomega and CBL, focus on getting suggestions off of grimy, broken or waterlogged no longer ordinary drives. they provide the understanding, centers and high priced procedures that the time-honored person basically does not have. you will locate many different such centers on line. community computing device shops could handle the activity besides. The undesirable information is that records restoration centers are high priced. you are going to be finding at $a million,000 or extra. it relatively is a non-undertaking in case you stand to lose irreplaceable digital photographs. yet you may could think of two times approximately easily replaced or much less high priced information and courses. i assume you didnt make any new changes to your PC hardware, so i would say your power supply unit (PSU) is dying.

if you can get another PSU to test it out, that would be great. you dont need to rip out anything massive while putting another PSU to test. just plug out the power connector cables from the current PSU and plug in the test PSU. then plug in the power cable for the test PSU and turn on the power.
