A weekend guest who I had known for 6 years stole an $850.00 money order along with the receipt and stub. The payee field was already filled in. What can I do?

If who the money order was made out to was already filled out, then they can't cash it without committing forgery. First, call the police and report this. No matter how much you think your friend is your friend, this isn't how friends treat each other. Second, go the the place that you got the money order and tell them what happened. They will have a copy of the reciept or they should. They can track if the m/o has been cashed and then contact who the money order was to. Once you have a police report and you can show them that the check was cashed and it was supposed to go to them, then they can also file the necessary charges and I can guarantee your "friend" will never think about stealing from you again. If the Pay to the order of was blank, then they would have had to fill it in and the bank can track where it was cashed and who cashed it. Good luck with your issue. I hope this helps.

Was the payee the week-end guest?? I don't know-you might want to call a bank or currency exchange where you got it from and see if they have a record of it from the amount and the time they wrote it, if so maybe they can trace the transaction and catch your EX-week end guest. Keep us informed. Best of luck to you!

Who was the payee on the m.o. you didn't say if it was to the guy who stole it or to someone else. You can go to the bank and explain the situation they will decide what you should, you will have to sign a bind of indemnity, and yes they can put a stop payment order on it.
