Use Vaseline for the cytoplasm!

I made a cell model, and I made it bowl-shaped and filled it with Vaseline, and all the organelles were submerged in it in various depths, some on the top so you could see them clearly. I made it out of play-doh, so I could easily form the maze-like folds of the endoplasmic reticulum. Is it the glycogen granules that are really really tiny? I made those out of glitter, mixed in with the Vaseline.

Another thing you can do is make it edible. Like a ginger-bread cell! Fill it with frosting and put the organelles on top of the frosting, make them out of twizzler string and cake sprinkles and candy!!! Or you can be gross and make it out of oil and meat.

I have a great idea! When I taught fifth grade, we always did an "edible cell project" where the students brought in cell models made strictly of food. Some students made cakes that were decorated with icing and candies to make the parts. Others made pita concoctions or even pizzas with toppings as the parts (crust as the cell wall, etc.). The activity was always a huge hit, and you can get points for being creative from your teacher AND points for making something tasty for your classmates! :o)

think of uniqe ideas that have been put into other cell phones, for example who would have ever thought just 10 years ago that cell phones would have cameras where you could take pictures and take videos? and now there is this music craze because of the iPods, i guess you could include some of these new technological creations to include in your cell model and hopefully make others jealous.

hope that helped
