has anyone ever taken an 18 volt nicad battery apart and replaced the battery that was bad. If so how did you get it apart?

These batteries are usually made up of 1.2 volt cells attached together. Somethime they use a carrier with contacts, but often the connecting tabs are spot welded to the batteries.

If the battery is fairly old, replacing one cell may not be a good idea, as the others are probably on their way out.
