1. Some people are hypo-glycemic...they NEED to snack. Vending machines provide snacks for such students.
2. Students may forget a lunch from home and not have enough money for a school lunch - a vending machine provides a way for them to gather up a little change (or borrow a minimal amount from friends) and have a little something to eat.
3. Many of the snacks in vending machines are high in carbohydrates, which provide energy to one's body.
4. Some of the snacks in vending machines are actually healthier and lower in fat than school-prepared cafeteria food.
5. Calling food "junk" food is an opinion. There is no defined line of what is junk food and what is not. It's all in one's perspective. Due to this, removing machines solely because some consider the food "junk" is removing food - a source that keeps one alive - from others who do not share that opinion.
I LOVE debating and tried to get creative. This was fun! Thanks!
Hope it helps, and good luck with your debate.
:o)
p.s. It's funny how people are still saying that junk food is bad in their responses. Of course it is, and I agree! It's just fun trying to think up creative rebuttals. I don't agree with a single statement I made, but it was fun thinking creatively...and besides - you needed some reasons against removing them for your assignment. :o)

Because there are times when you don't have time for a full meal. Like if you have tutoring during lunch, in cases like that, there needs to be access to some sort of food you can eat on the go. And what about night classes at the school or after school activities where there isn't time to go home and grab a bite but yet the lunchroom is closed? Again, the vending machines are providing a much needed service of letting people who don't just go to school during regular hours for their education.

I believe that there should be a balance between healthy snacks and not so healthy snacks.
I also believe that a little junk food is not a bad thing. Junk food can be given as a reward. I remember that my days in school were a lot more fun when I had a little junk food to get through the day!

why shouldnt you be able to eat what you want? Its just a small bag too not like a big fattening bag, also if you want to buy it from a machine then obviously you like it obviously you eat it at home...so why cant you have it for a snack or lunch at school? Cmon you are in high school about to enter the real world cant have a freakin coke! what a joke

- To allow children the choice to make their own decisions
- Parent's responsibility to regulate children's eating habits by educating their child or not allowing them to purchase the junk food
- It could be allowed but also posters stating how much fat is in it and how many laps of the oval the child would have to run if they want to eat it - makes them think a little about what they eat
