You are absolutely right. They should get a taste of their own medicine. Here is a questionnaire for them to take and see what it feels like to gays when they ask these type questions.

They literally don't know.
They only know what they've heard from the media, it's not their fault they ask questions those of us have grappled with since an early age think are obvious. If you haven't ever met a gay person before, you're bound to ask them why the heck they'd "pick" being gay over having a nice life with a wife and kids that won't make you a matthew sheppard.

Very simply, they don't know very much about sexual orientation in humans and assume that everyone else should be like them. They can't imagine that sexual orientation might be based on biology or even social aspects of a person's bringing up. Everything is pretty much black and white for them and they only view sexual orientation through the rose-colored glasses of their own orientation, heterosexuality.
I would say too that some may very well be parents of non-straight people and they want some support from people to show that they had nothing to do with their children's sexual lifestyle.

Because straight people want to find out if your answer is the one that is in their narrow minded heads for the reason why they think we are gay

They just have no understanding. By the way, there are no "dumb" questions. The "dumb" is not asking. The question may be poorly worded, but not dumb.
I suppose one could say, "What makes me gay is the same thing (same one) that made you straight.

They don't under sexuality, and in a society like ours they believe that being gay is a choice and just something you are. And there is no such thing as a dumb question, just the one that go unasked.

Seriously, because straight people are often closed minded idiotic people when it comes to the fact of being gay, lesbian or bisexual. If you think that that is interesting, you should see how they react to a transgender. Especially those "godly" ones.

Because they can't think both ways. They are on the 'straight' and narrow mind length.

I haven't ever asked anyone "what made you gay?" People aren't made gay, they are born that way.
