use a pretty dish towel or scarf to wrap and tie at the top with ribbon. Use plain brown paper or a solid color paper. Make it special with stampers from the craft dept, such as snowflakes, candy canes, etc.--or add on holiday stickers found in the scrap book dept. Tie with colored raffia. For family I try to get a theme that matches their personality. For example the hunters in the family get paper with deer on it. If you have a computer printer you can personalize with things you printed yourself such as stickers, TO and FROM labels, and even photos printed on plain paper.

I scanned some family photos then glued them on plain brown wrapping paper! Everyone loved them and they are one of a kind.
