I have a 97 Ranger, 4cylinder, 8 plugs. Is it recommended to change all at the same time, or can I just change the primary four on top of motor?

On these engines, it is best to replace all 8. You have 4 primaries that start burning the mix and then the other 4 help complete combustion. If you have 4 new plugs and 4 old plugs, the burn pattern will be disrupted and can cause improper detonation.

replacemement of spark plugs depends on many factors, like usage, on the type, wether it is a hot plug or a cold plug, reach of the plug and maximum temp in the cylinder. but when u hav to replace, u need to replace all at once, because for a four cylinder engine, the firing order being 1-3-4-2 or 1-2-4-3.. all engines are fired during a cycle.. so wear on the spark plug remains almost the same .
