Are there any moms out there who were GBS+ and declined antibiotics during labor because you were low risk for passing it on to your baby? How was the baby's health after birth?

Get the antibiotics!! Your chld can die if you pass gbs on to them, if you already delivered and did not recieve medication keep a very close watch on your child. if you have the medication there is a smaller chance of them being infected. Whom ever told you that there was a small chance didnt know what they were talking about, My sisters son contracted Gbs from her and was in the hospital for 1 month he almost died, his brain swelled and he may have learning disablitlys or mild retardation it is very serious.

I tested GBS- with my first and GBS+ with babies #2 and #3.

I really don't think there is such a thing as being "low risk for passing it on." Either you're GBS+ or you're not. You can lower your chances of passing it to baby by not consenting to AROM and by having antibiotics in labor.

I didn't have time for antibiotics with #2 because my whole labor/pushing time only totaled about 4 hours. I was 10 cm when I got to the birth center, so there was no time for it. BUT my bag of water also was still intact, which does help to minimize baby's exposure. (But there is no way you can insure that your whole labor will pass with your bag intact!) My MW broke my water while I was pushing. My baby was FINE.....but her exposure time was only about 12 minutes while I pushed!

With #3, I got one round of antibiotics. (They usually want you to have 2 rounds.) Again, my bag of water stayed intact for all of labor. It broke on it's own during pushing, maybe 5 mins before she was born. Again, baby was fine.

You can try to make sure you grow a strong bag of water that will stay intact longer if you eat a lot of vitamin C foods and take vitamin C supplements.

Is there a specific reason you are considering declining the antibiotics?

If you are worried about thrush post-partum, start taking acidopholis prior to the birth and stay on it for a little while post-partum.

If you are worried about being "tied down" to an IV during labor, request a heplock so that you can get the ABX and then get unhooked and have freedom of movement. The heplock stays in your arm and they can hook you back up again later if you need a second dose. It only takes 10-20 minutes of being hooked up every so many hours. (How often depends on what ABX they decide to give you.)

Nope.

I was positive for GBS both times, and I opted for the antibiotics. I would have gotten them anyway, as my first child was delivered by an emergency C-section after 52 hours of labor, 3 hours of pushing, and maternal/fetal distress. My second kid was born via a planned C-section because of a second round of preeclampsia and a preexisting skeletal abnormality (which was discovered during the birth of my first child). So I was getting antibiotics no matter what!

i do not advise it. My sister quite somewhat died because of swallowing the contaminated fluid(they did not comprehend my mom became GBS sensible) it would want to no longer purely reason blindness, and so on. yet my sister's lungs did not open after shipping because of it. It brought with regard to the blood passage between the lungs and heart now to not open, her lungs tried to act as if she were nevertheless in utero....and she or he had to be in an incubator for 3 months.....I, too am GBS sensible....and also you extra useful believe with all of my pregnancies I were given the completed 2 bags of iv antibiotics it truly is needed(to make sure that toddler isn't harmed from the GbS) previously I presented. in my opinion, i does no longer imagine it became truthful to any toddler to no longer get the antibiotics... GOD forbid they were given ill or worse, because of a mom's selfish determination to no longer get the treatment if attainable...

Get the antibiotic. I almost died with my 2nd daughter due to GBS not being detected. She spend seven days in the hospital hooked up to an IV. Please don't take that chance four hours of antibiotics is very little to take versus the possibility of losing your newborn and possibly your own life.

I can't remember if I was positive or not, I think I was...but regardless, I arrived at the hospital 20 minutes before my little guy was born, so there was no time!! I was already wanting to push when I was changing into a gown!
We are both healthy & happy.

Actually i was GBS + too and since I tested negative right before I had my son they said i didn't need it. I trusted them and they were right, I have a beautiful and healthy little boy. I think it all depends on how your condition is I would trust the doc though if you think its right. Good luck

I think you need to read more first hand stories and get info from health provider. I have read about a couple whose baby died because its mother passed on the group B. She didnt know she had it. I dont know alot about it, I havent had it with my pregnancys. Obviously you need to make the right choice for you and your baby. If it were me, i would have the shot Just to be safe.
