its because it might not be picking up the true quality of sound with the 256 kpbs. i honestly would not know why it is better, but ure right 96 has better sound quality than 256.

Technically, they can't. However, I have found that some people will take awful recordings and convert them to a higher bitrate. This doesn't change the sound - it just makes the file bigger.

I saw that a lot when I used to use LimeWire. I love to listen to Old Time Radio and the shows were never recorded in a bitrate higher than 64kbps because of all of the static and pops from the old records and reel-to-reel tapes. I'd find recordings that were in 320 kbps and knew that it just wasn't possible.

People did that to make their file look better so more people would download from them and improve their ranking.
