Hi-
I'm a high school sophomore who's DYING to go to college. High school basically is torture for me. I mean I get As and Bs, I play sports, and I'm in clubs and everything, but only for college. I work hard and all of that, and I excel in school, but it doesn't mean I like it. Anyway, my question is: for all of you college-goers/grads: which was better for you h.s. or college? Is the college environment more mature socially, etc? In my opinoin, I can barely stand to be in the same room with some of these hoodlums at my school...I apologize for sounding like an old lady. lol anyway just let me know if it really DOES get better after you finally get that diploma and head off to college!!! I need to look forward to something! =) thanks!

Ehh college is better I guess. A little more freedom. I'm still technically a high school senior but I'm doing my freshman year of college at the same time. Honestly, I don't feel that I've learned that much, but part of that is probably the college I'm going to. Hang in there and get into a good school, making sure you like the social life and the atmosphere, and of course, the quality of education. It does get better though.

College is much better. Most of the students are there because they want to be. You goof off and your gone. The slackers that make your life miserable in high school won't put out the effort or attend class. It isn't mandatory, but your grade suffers if you don't know the material or you don't take the test. You would do well in class, just don't bite off more than you can chew. You actually can construct sentences and can spell.. :)) It will be a good experience for you.

ha... you sound like me 4 years ago. I didn't even realize how unhappy I was until I got to college. I too was really involved in hs, but things DEF improved when I got to college. I often questioned whether or not my hard work would pay off. It did. I couldn't be happier. Hang in there! Just two and a half more years.

College is better, but only if you go to a good college. There are lots of "trade" schools that call themselves colleges. I can't imagine them being better than high school. A good college will not only challenge you in your major, but it will expose you to different ideas and areas of study that you never thought about before. That's where things get interesting.

College is better. I was in your shoes in high school. In college, there are more people who actually think on your level, so you can actually have meaningful conversations. Also, they don't treat you like a child--one of the nicest differences is not having to ask permission to go to the bathroom. It's a small thing, but I still enjoy it, even after five years. And, of course, you can focus more on what you really care about.
Hang in there!

Yes, college is much better. While not everyone takes it seriously, at least you've weeded out some of the "hoodlums" and those truly uninterested in education, and those unable to focus at all.

You are more independent from your parents, able to set your schedule. You have a broad range of course offerings to take, many activities to participate in. You can make life-long friends and relax, and enjoy yourself as well. I suspect that you can enjoy yourself in many ways -- partying, or for those for whom that's of less interest, you can throw yourself into drama, or music, or sports, or whatever. You can be who you want to be.

Keep up the good work in high school. Even though you're a sophomore it isn't too early to start thinking about colleges, planning out your courses, activities, etc. for maximum return vis-a-vis your transcripts, etc.

BEST OF LUCK to you.

I agree that college is good. If you are trying to go to Stanford/Mit/Caltech, then you are going to have some trouble. You said you are studying only for college. However, if you look at the colleges' websites, they want you to learn not for getting into those colleges, but for the sake of knowledge.
Anyway good luck

Can you take advanced placement courses that may enable you to graduate earlier? College is definitely better, but there is no guarantee that everyone in college will be more socially mature. But you are much less likely to run into 'hoodlums' there.

Isn't it kind of obvious that university will be more mature than high school? I mean you're talking about 14-18 year olds vs. 18-23 year olds.

College is better. Hang in there. Focus on extracurricular activities that you really have a passion for.
