Today out of nowhere my clutch (I'm sure it's my clutch) started making a noise. Hard to describe but maybe like a siren only not loud like that. This is 98 Escort Zx2... It happened when I put the clutch in but does not make noise at any other time. Any info is appreciated!
Thanks!

sounds like a throw out bearing. this bearing rides against the pressure plate when you depress the clutch. Sounds like you may wanna have a professional opinion. Depending on the miles and if it has never been replaced it may be time for a clutch replacement

Well first of all my car is also a manual transmission and it has about 120,000 miles on it. I personally never use the clutch except when Im at a dead stop. As for your problem it sounds like a bearing. Also you can just float your gears that is what I do must of the time. Basically all you do is shift without using the clutch. Its not bad for the car either all ya do is when the engine starts to rev high place your hand on the shifter and let of the gas and shift to the next gear to down shift just tap the gas and gently press the shifter into the next gear. It takes practive but its alot easier than messing with the clutch.

The consensus seems to be the bearing. My contribution is just an admonition to get it handled TOMORROW. If you drive it more than a day with a bad bearing you will wreck the car. The two times I have attempted to push a bearing problem (1 wheel 1 main) both cars ended up in the junkyard b/c the repair cost exceeded the value of the car. If you don't deal with this tomorrow you will be shopping for a new car on Tuesday.

A loud squeal from a clutch being pushed in is usually the throughout bearing going bad.It should be replaced within a month or so to prevent it from locking up,could cause lots of damage.

It sounds like the throw out bearing is going bad (some of them have a grease fitting ) you can have your mechanic see if it has one, if so have him shoot some grease into it and it might save the bearing and make it quiet again. good luck

sounds like your throwout barring is going out or not greased during prevented maintenance. More then likely it is the barring going out need to get it replaced.

well seems that your clutch bearings have worn out....may be due to improper pressing of the clutch while engaging gears or just that they have outlived their utility......
or may be due to less or no gear/ clutch oil.....

anyways see a mechanic for advice....goodday.

if it happend when you where trying to put it into reverse it could be because you did not push your clutch in far enough
