My 9 year old boy went to school last week with his shirt untucked. During the middle of class the teacher noticed and told him... " go tuck in your shirt... oops I mean your dress." then was laughed at by half of his classmates. My son feels as if the teacher was making a gay joke at him and is higly upset. Would this be considered harassment and what do I do to address the problem?

I think that if you go address the teacher with your concerns, then the teacher might try to correct his approach to how he addresses children in situations like this..He should be sensitive with children that age!
(if nothing is fixed go see the principal)

It might have been a joke, but children are easily infuanced...

I would consider that harrassment. The teacher had no right to embarrass your son in front of the class like that. I would be upset too. You should definitely go talk to the principal. I had a friend in high school who got a teacher fired for using her as an example during sex ed because she had an abortion. If it was taken offensively, then it was offensive.

It wasn't harassment, but it was not too bright either. I think you should speak to the teacher, and tell her or him that the remark was inappropriate and humiliating.
However you won't get anywhere if you approach the teacher with hostility. It was not a crime, but it was a little childish, and the teacher should be brought to understand the effect it can have, but without feeling threatened.
So take a couple of days to calm down before going to the school

I agree with the first response you got. Your kid was probably wearing an over sized shirt that was long enough to be a dress. It's called a joke...in poor taste perhaps, but a joke. Talk it over with the teacher.

Lodge a complaint with the principal and ask for a parent conference. Explain the issue to the principal to get it resolved.

Sounds like it was just one of those jokes that was not funny.

Tell your son to keep his shirt tucked in. And no it isn't harassment.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!

She was probably saying that because his shirt was so long! I seriously doubt that it was meant towards him as a gay comment.

PLEASE!!! Are you going to raise him to be a whiner?? Yeah...that's just what we need in this country...more whiners...

Instead of giving the teacher a hard time about saying anything to him about having his shirt out....did you say anything to him about not having it tucked in????

maybe the teacher didn't mean it, but as a concerned parent you should talk to principal and discuss it with them in a PTA meeting.
