I believe you're talking about the kind of coating that is designed to reduce heat entering a building by reflecting some of the sun's radiation back away from the window.

Quite possibly to reflect light and, thus, prevent the transfer of heat through radiation. This would reduce the amount of heat inside a building.

(Not 100% sure though)
