Ever since i've become pregnant, i don't seem normal anymore. I used to go to the bathroom everyday - every other day, but now its like i'm constipated or something, cause i wont have to go for like 4 days and then i get cramps and have to go, and then its more runnyish. What can i do to make it more normal, or is it something im going to have to live with the whole pregnancy?

I know your pain!! First, try the easier things like drinking a quart of water ever day (getting those really big bottles makes it easier for me than knowing I have to drink 3 bottles a day.), get your fiber in cereals and fruits and veggies, and maybe adding wheat germ, some excercise like walking helps get things moving.

Still if it's a problem, try prune juice (You can get used to it!) or a mild laxative like Milk of Magnesia. Stool softeners are OK. You can't use others because of the baby. Suppositories or enemas may bring on contractions, so you can't use them either.

If it continues, you need to either pressure your OB for help or see a gastroenterologist on your own. I found that my OB, my fertility doctor, and my primary all blew off my constipation like it wasn't a big deal, yet I couldn't even go every 4 days! You need to make him see just how bad it is! They have stuff that is safe for the baby and gives you more help than the over the counter stuff. Good luck! (Yes, it could last all 9 months and beyond.)

♥♪♦♫ The reason for the constipation is because you don't have enough fiber and you may have to much iron in your blood you have to go to the doctor and tell him and then he will give you this medicine and that will help you to use the bathroom more easy. The reason for the constipation is because the baby is on your rectum and that is what hurting you and also this is prepareing your body for when it that time to push that is why they call it bearing down, I hope that I have helped you I had this same problem when I was pregnant with my son.♥♪♦♫

First question: Did you honestly expect to be normal AND pregnant? Too many hormones in your body going haywire. You'll be "normal" again a couple of weeks after the baby is born. If you find yourself overly concerned, call the doc.

It is normal. it's from the hormones and the prenatal vitamins (the iron constipates you) talk to your OB. They'll let you know what stool softener you can take.

Make sure to drink LOTS of water and eat enough fiber to help you as well.

I had the same problem. I asked my doctor and he said i could take Metamucil (the powder) it's an orange flavor powder and it's not that bad of tasting. It helped me go and it doesn't give you the runs like laxitives. You take spoonfuls of the powder and mix it with a full glass of water and drink. Good luck

The more water you drink the better, I would ask your doctor what else can be done to help that is safe while pregnant.
