I have a copper IUD placed, it will be 3 years in a couple of months. I just noticed yesterday and today 2 very thin, maybe about 2-3 mm, copper liker pieces in my undies, is it possible for the IUD to break apart?

Yes,quite possibly your IUD has begun to break down or apart. You need to visit the GYN and have it removed and replaced as soon as possible. In the meantime, I hate to tell you but you may not be protected from pregnancy. It's hard to say how much of the IUD remains and if it is functioning as advertised. So if that is a concern for you, you need to use another form of birth control to be on the safe side until you get it replaced.

yeah, i guess it could break apart. you should see the gynecologist...make sure it's placed correctly or it didn't completely fall out and you missed the other parts!

I have one, my doctor told me if I ever notice something metal to call him and he would check placement, re-insert if needed
