Okay, leeme keep this nice and sweet :-)
I currently have internet (duh) and a phone line. Well, I was wondering if I HAD to have a phone line to have internet. In other words, are there any ISPs that allow you to have internet without a phone line? Or is a phone line a necessity?
Thanks!! =D

If you have DSL, your internet comes over the phone line, and you need it.

If your internet comes over cable, for example, than you only need a phone line to call when your cable is out.

If you have dial-up, you need a phone line because you are "dialing in" to the internet. You are using phone lines to carry the info you are accessing. If you get cable, DSL, or satellite, you don't need a phone because you are not using a phone line to carry the info. These are also faster because they employ new technology that allows a greater volume of info to be carried at faster rates. Cable and DSL use newer lines other than phones. Satellite uses a satellite signal and a satellite to access via a satellite ISP (like satellite tv, only with internet). DSL may not be available in your area because the lines have to be installed, but cable is accessed through your cable for tv, so you should have that. Satellite is everywhere but you need a dish and it is typically more expensive.

Two different types of internet are dial-up and broadband. Dial up requires a phone line and must dial in every time you sign on. Broadband, is permanently connected through cable or DSL and doesnt connect through the phone lines. If you are using dial up, which it sounds like you are, a phone line is a necessity.

You can use a satellite hookup as an alternative. visit: http://www.buddyandoscars.com/Construction_Contractors.htm and click on the link for ‘Cable, DSL, or Satellite... which is better for you?’ for more information.
