Omission of information is a lie? Why?

It's a form of lieing. Leaving a vital piece out of a story so the whole truth is not presented is, in effect, the same as lieing.

Politicians and the media, mainstream or otherwise, are great at this little trick.

There is no such word as "lieing". There is such a word as "lying" which means...a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood....but I have never heard of the word "lieing".

think of it this way.
you ask your boyfriend what he did.
[actually he went to get gas then slept with your best friend.]
he says "i went to get gas."
did he lie?
