I assume you're trying to solve for x.

So this is what I would do.

I would subtract 100 from both sides.

64-100 = x + 100 - 100

The 100s on the rights side of the equation cancel leaving you with:

64-100 = x

64-100 is a negative number, -36 to be exact.

Therefore, x = -36

You have to get the x to be alone on one side of the equation, so to do that, we subtract 100 from both sides.

x = 64-100

x = -36

I think it's funny how people still answer these questions minutes after they've obviously been solved. But, they go into more and more detail HOPING that they are chosen for the 10 points.
