It's not that bad.
I went for the first time about a month or two ago. First, she gave me instructions to take my pants off including my underwear and to unhook my bra. I did so when she left the room. Then, I got up onto the table thing with this sheet over me and my ankles in the stirrup things. When she came back in, she felt my chest area to see if things were normal. Then, she looked at my pubic area and stuck something in me that had a tiny camera on it so she could see my ovaries, I could see them too on a screen. After that, she stuck something else in my, I believe that was the pap smear. There is discomfort but it's not painful.
Either after that or before that, I was led into a room where she asked me if I was sexually active, when my last period was, etc.

Don't be scared, sweetie, there's nothing to it. I assume you are a young woman. I would tell the doctor that it is your first exam, and ask him or her to explain what they are doing to you. You will probably be asked to undress and put a gown on, they will take a history of your health, and then the gynecologist will probably examine your breasts. After that, she or he will probably do an internal exam. An instrument called a speculum is inserted into your vagina to make it a little wider so the doctor can see what he/she is doing. The doctor takes a tiny bit of cells for your pap smear (this comes from the cervix, normally, so the area is high into your vagina). He or she may also press on your abdomen to feel your ovaries and other parts. The doctor will also visually examine you inside for anything abnormal. It is a little uncomforable, but just take big, calming breaths and you will relax and it won't feel as bad. Oh, the doctor might also do a rectal exam, but it takes two seconds ... IF they even do it ... they just insert a gloved finger into your rectum to make sure everything is as it should be. The doctor will probably talk to you after you are dressed again, so bring up concerns and birth control or whatever worries you. It's all over in a few minutes, and if all is well, you usually get a call or a card in the mail telling you your pap smear was fine, and you should come back in a year. It is scary the first time, after that it is just something we females have to endure. You will be fine! Just relax and good luck.

It really depends on what you are going for. But in general, they will ask a zillion questions, take a blood test, listen to your heart, feel your glands, poke around on your stomach, do a breast exam and then an internal exam and take a pap smear. None of it hurts, the internal can be a little uncomfortable, but not anything worth complaining about. The first time can be embarrassing, but if your Doc has a good bedside manner, it will help you relax a bit. After the first visit, you will know exactly what your dealing with, and after a few babies and other girlee ailments, you won't think twice about it.

You will be just fine. The nurse should explain everything to you & help you feel more at ease & if you have ANY questions write them down tonight so you don't forget to ask & if you have questions about what they are gonna do ASK don't be scared this is your body you are in control of you! If it is a male doctor the nurse should stay with you to help the doctor with the Pap smear & exam. He will examine your breasts & then he will do a pelvic exam. Two fingers, alot of KY Jelly inside & hand on top of lower pelvic area to feel uterus, ovaries. Basically that's it unless he does the rectal exam & it's not too bad one finger up the hinny to check for blood. Finished!

they have you go into an exam room, it's always cold in those rooms for some reason, they take your pressure, your weight, ask you if you are sexually active, fill out history forms. then the doc comes in and usually does a breast exam which does not hurt, then he examines you either manually by inserting fingers and feeling around or by inserting speculum (to open vagina) to look inside to make sure all is well. the instruments are cold and it's embarrassing when you've not been before but there is nothing to fear. all women do this twice a year. it's important to get a pap test to make sure you are healthy.

You will be fine. I was the same way when I got my first papsmear. The vaginal part of the exam will take less than a min. Your doctor will give you a breast exam and then your all done.

You'll be find. Just a nice and cold speculum to spread you open a bit, a nice swab and you're done.
