Depends on what format your songs are in. WMA. MP3, etc. usually around 40 songs on average. These players are getting more affordable. Get a player with expandable memory.

It depends on the quality you use for downloading, but the answer is going to be not very many. The average mp3 size is 4 mb, so I would estimate about 30 songs. If you want somethings that holds a lot of music, I'd recommend looking at mp3 players with more memory.
