Sometimes yorkers (for those unsure of what they are it is a delivery that pitches at the batsmen's feet) can be effective but when the batsman is unsettled (for instance after an effective bouncer) but whilst settled they are ussually clipped of the pads or hit with a drive on the half-volley which will happen when the class of the competition is like the ashes (good batsmen both sides) I find swing and then cut off the seam is most effective (also known as reverce swing) although difficult. So ussually they set the field up in a manner in which on of the players may catch the ball getting it through a batmen's defence isn't as easy as it looks most wickets are catches or LBWs (which are impossible to give with a yorker if the batsmen steps in to it because they have to hit and pitch online)

Because if you keep bowling them the batsman just has to take a step or two out side his crease and it turns into a full toss.

Just commenting about the above poster... Reverse swing isnt when it swings then it cuts, reverse swing is when it swings in when it should swing out. You have to be bowling above 135 km for this to happen, and need an old ball

Even in ODI, yorkers are being bowled by the bowlers.
