If i have an atom that has 8 protons and 8 neutrons, how many electrons do I have?

8. An atom is by definition neutral, so it has the same number of protons and electrons. If it weren't neutral, it would be an ion with a charge, and the number of protons minus the charge would be the number of electrons. (That means if the charge is negative, there are extra electrons.)

since u say atom, then it must be neutral so the answer is 8 electrons.

if an ion, then it could be more or less than 8
