Ok I have tried the monitor on a different computer and it works fine, also when I turn the computer on I can hear sounds come out of the speakers. I don't get the initial beep when you press the power button on the computer though. I think my problem is the video card but do you think it could be something else too?? thanks for all the help.

OK, if the monitor works on other computers, but not on yours, it's your video card.

If you have "onvboard" video, you may be able to install a video card. If you already have a video card, you should be able to replace it. If you find yourself in over your head, consult a repairman.

There really isn't enough information here to help. I don't know if you have a PC or a Mac, Dos, Windows, XP, Linux, etc.

Assuming you have a PC with XP on your troublesome computer and on your test computer, try setting the resolution and refresh rate on the troublesome computer with a working monitor first, then swap in your monitor.

It seems strange that the monitor can cause something to hold your system at boot time (why you have no boot beep). Possibly a BIOS setting to detect PNP attached devices is causing the problem. Some computer BIOS have a setting for PNP OS (y/n). If you set it to "n" (no) the BIOS tries to initialize any PNP devices before allowing the OS to boot. If you have such a setting, try setting it to yes.

I'm assuming you're not getting a picture at all when you turn the computer on. The problem can be either RAM, Video, or your mainboard.

Try your RAM in your test computer if it will take it.

If you have a video adapter that is not onboard you could try it in another computer as well.
