Do I need to do my taxes?

I'm a full time student and I just started working in late October of this year, and I was wondering If I needed to do my taxes for this year? I didn't work all thanksgiving week and I'm not going to work the last two weeks of this month. So in total I would make around 600 dollars for this year. So do I have to do my taxes?

Yeah, it's what I will get by the end of this year, well it's an estimate, minus the taxes they take out. I get 6.50/hr, so that's not alot of money.

If your parents can claim you as a dependent, then yes. If they can't, then no.

But since you say they took out some taxes from your paycheck, you should definitely file even if you're not required to, so you can get your money back that they took out for federal income taxes. You won't get back what they took out for FICA (social security and medicare) when you file though.

To file federal, use 1040EZ - the EZ stands for easy, and it truly is - you can do it yourself.

Depending on what state you live in, you might be required to file a state tax return, and some municipalities have local taxes also that start on the first dollar you earn.

If you got a W2 from your employer, you should file. You may end up getting all that money back.

Was $600 what you took home (ie: minus taxes) ? It may be worth the trouble to file - you might get a hundred or so back.

Yes. There are places to indicate you are a full time student though. You won't end up paying.

If they took taxes off your cheque, you would be getting a rebate, do them!
