There’s an argument to be made for negotiating with the moderate Islamists and helping them maintain stability, but this seems a very unlikely route, ideologically, for the White House. The U.S. has a close relationship with the government in Christian-majority Ethiopia — a government that may not favor a stable Islamist Somalia.

Since the US forces were driven out of Somalia by Al Qaeda, that place has no longer been ruled by 'moderate' muslims. It is going down the same path as the Darfur region in Sudan where Islamists have gained sufficient strength to enact the last stage of Jihad.

There is no correct Humanitarian move. If we do nothing, the Islamists will eventually get to the last stage of Jihad in Somalia too, exterminating or brutalizing anyone not of their movement. If we help the Somalis fight back, they will also suffer. Once the Islamists gain complete control, they will turn Somalia into a staging area for Islamist Jihad against other countries, just as they did in Afghanistan and are doing in Sudan. They may create a 'stable' government but it is an awfully bad neighbor to have around.

Once Islamists gain strength in a country, massive brutality and suffering of its people become inevitable. There seems to be no course that restores respect for humanity in a peaceful manner. The people of that country either kill off the Islamists or are killed off by them. Islamists are rather single-minded in their objectives.

The Muslim people of Afghanistan, the peaceful people of Darfur and so many others have learned this the hard way in recent decades.

Neither Democrat or Republican is advocating complete rights and marriage equality for gay voters. The Republicans are out to eliminate as many rights and privileges as they are in a position to from GLBT human beings. As for humanitarian help the two are concerning the comparable for offering releif and help in mess ups, yet for extra continual and pervasive issues the Republicans don't have self belief in helping as lots by way of fact the Democrats. So of the two, you're maximum suitable to part with Democrats.

already been bitten once and the US should let the weak UN take care of the problems in that country.

I think the U.S should mind its own business. The world hates us EXTREMELY for what we do in Iraq and our ridiculous un-questioning support of Israel.
