You are seeking behaviors not disabilities. I would say off task behaviors (talking, daydreaming, sleeping, not paying attention, doing other work) then I would say attention seeking behaviors (blurting out, throwing things, hitting, showing off). These are the 2 most common. The next would most likely be the passive aggressive student who refuses to work and shuts down instead of working then there is the aggressive student who is verbally and physically challenging the teacher and other students on a regular basis, this is the extreme and rare where I work.
Off task behaviors= 25 to 30 aday
Attention seeking behaviors= 10 to 15 a day
Passive aggressive= 1 to 5 a day
Aggressive= 1 a week

In my classroom the three most common types of negative behavior are inattentiveness, inappropriate attention seeking, and learned helplessness.
Inattentiveness is probably the most important to deal with. Most of my kids have ADHD, some are medicated, some aren't. Regardless of this I try to set up the classroom environment to have as few distractions as possible. I always have the shades drawn on my windows, my door is closed, I have lines of sight blocked by room dividers in between students who distract each other, there is not a lot of clutter. I contantly cue students to remain on task and I move around the room and stand near students who need more attention (proximity).
For the attention seeking I try to find reasons to give the students attention for positive things they do instead of the negative things. In this way, eventually the students realize that goofing around won't get them any of the attention but making good choices, doing quality work, etc will get them recongnized.
Learned helplessness in my group is a tough one. Most of my kids have gotten away with looking pitiful and whining until someone (teachers, parents, etc.) gives them the answers or does the work for them. I have to go back to square one with many of them and teach them how to learn, think and problem solve.
One thing to remember is that negative behavior in a classroom has a function. Have a kid who starts arguing every time you start math? Maybe it's avoidance and the kid is hoping he'll get removed from class so nobody knows how "dumb" he is at math. Most of my kids, when they get in trouble in the general ed classroom it's because they are trying to avoid work or because the work is so far above their heads and isnt being modified so they are frutrated and bored.

The main behaviors that I deal with in the Special Ed classroom are: Attention (remaining focused and working or attending to the lesson/speaker/etc.), Anger (I have a number of ED students who don't have coping strategies), and Helplessness (kids have decided that they are "stupid" and can't get anything).

I would have to say attention deficit. There are a couple levels.
Strategies of teaching... a good practice often used is having the student repeat to you what you said. Constantly making sure they are paying attention. Another would be to teach with a variety of interactive activites that do not become mundane or cause long periods of time focused on one thing.
I know a mother who refused to give her child Ridilin medication. It was a lot of work for her but she did it and the child will be graduating this coming spring. Hats off to mothers of ADD children. My sister had 5 boys with it.

If you are looking for individuals with disabilities, I would guess Autism, Mental Retardation, and Learning Disorders.
As far as most common behavior in a special education classroom, I would guess short attention span, behavior problems (aggressions to self, others, and to materials), learning disorders.

well, i'm a 'student' in SPECIAL ed (i'm special) and well from what i can say is that in SPED class, everything seems normal except for that fact that people are ALWAYS talking over each other and a lot of people are usually in the room. also many teachers are in the room trying to calm everyone down and trying to help the people WHO are ACTUALLY trying to do other school work......i like sped class because the teachers in that department are always there to lend a helping hand and always there for you whenever you have..........issues.....
another thing or two i can say is that in a sped class everybody in there are really nice.....and also really great friends......something strange though......there are cliques in my opinion......there are the really silent ones (usually asian..no offense ...i'm asain..lol), then there are the gothic/scary ones but still friendly.....there are also the super happy individuals (i like them ...they make me laugh).....what else....there are also the people with super cool computers THAT ARE PROGRAMED FOR THEM....jealous....and yah that's all i can think of right now!!!!!-thanks for asking
