Assuming you want to be able to access the internet on either computer, you need a router.
If it is practical to run a cable between the two computers, get a wired router. If not, get a wireless router (which supports wires anyway).
In a nutshell, your Cable/DSL modem attaches to the router, and your computers attach to the router.
Lavasoft has an excellent tutorial, even if you buy some other brand router.

If you have a cable modem, you have to first make sure at least one of the computers are wireless (internal or external). After that you have to buy a router and set up a network to run both computers.

I have the same set-up, I installed a wireless PCI card in one computer, buy a wireless router and connect other computer with ethernet cable. Install drivers and software for each. I am using Netgear wireless router and PCI card.

you're reliable. One router in line with internet line. i'm very much surprised that wifi isn't the answer. you do no longer get carry of a demonstration from the first computing device. 2 (or as a lot as ten) computers will share the purely wifi broadcast with out situation. as long as they are interior style, it truly is extremely often in a classic sized abode.
