I'm not sure, being a nursing assistant. It's probably similar though, between nursing assistants and nurses. I work at an assisted living facility and many of the women residents refuse to allow male nursing assistants to aid them. And there is at least one that will not allow black people to care for her. This could just be because they're older, so I'm not sure what the general concensus is.

I only hope to be in care of a nurse with blessed hands, there's nothing worse than being poked with a syringe by an angry nurse!

By the way I'm Puertorican!

Skill level and education are most important...But having a nurse that speaks English is pretty important to. Communication is key when caring for the sick. Nationality isn't a factor.

It really shouldn't matter the nationality as long as if your still breathing with the help of the nurses.

If they know their stuff...they know their stuff...I don't really think nationality matters as much as education and common sense, and promblem solving skills. I'm in the medical field, and I've seen whites, blacks, other minorities, look confused and dazed at times. But that's what we're in school for to learn.

i dont know why all these other people are so crazy, they are just being nice. everyone says it doesnt matter, but just wait until you are in a hospital bed and some dirty white woman comes to be your nurse, or some scary black woman, or someone hispanic, or someone jewish, or someone asian EWWW everyone knows that the only good nurses only come from the land of the ghosts.

Honestly, there is such a shortage, that even if there was a "preference" theres no room for discrimination.
