Awww! That is very touching. I mean, the very fact that you are so very concerned with how your comment has affected her. That seems so rare anymore; to find such compassion amongst siblings or just plain people altogether.
I say, if you've went out of your way to apologize, and have even went so far as to place your concern here, on Yahoo!Answers....then all you can do is wait it out, and continue to show her how sorry you really are. Girls are VERY VERY VERY sensitive about self image. It can rule a young girl's every thought. In fact....to my great dismay, my 6 yr. old daughter has been asking me on a near daily basis "Mom, do you think she is prettier than me?"....she even cries about another girl at kindergarten who she believes is "SOOOOOOO" much prettier than herself. :*( It's sad.
I dont know what your religious beliefs are; but I think this is worth mentioning regardless: In the KJV of the Bible, it speaks of how powerful our words are. "There is the power of life and death in the tongue!"...its either in Proverbs or the Psalms. Either way, you obviously know that a careless word, spoken quickly in an argument----can cause lasting damage. I dont say this to make you feel worse, but rather; to show you that any encouraging words you speak to her from here on out, will do alot to mend her pain. You should perhaps tell her everyday, atleast once a day how nice, or thin she looks.
Bottom line- do not continue to beat yourself up, you have apologized and she more than likely knows that you did not really mean it. Give her space and speak alot of encouraging words!
haha--just had another thought.....maybe have one of your guy friends tell her how good she looks or something?
GodBless you both!~

Believe me, it was not your comment that made her think she is fat. She already thought that but has been keeping it a secret. Tell her you were just kidding and that all your friends think she looks great.

She was having internal issues already about her weight. You just bought it to the surface.

Pray she don't develop an eating disorder.

you have to tell her that you did not mean it, and let this be a good lesson for you, words can hurt very badly.
think 2 times before you say anything and if you are mad think 4 times before ...

Just apologise and beg for forgiveness. You are obviously sorry, and you need to help her through this difficult time before she becomes anorexic :)
