Tashi is a girl who lives in the African village where Nettie is doing missionary work.
Tashi & Olivia are best friends. Since educating girls wasn't important, Olivia is teaching Tashi how to read and spell--just like Nettie did Celie when they were young.
(I don't know the answer to that third question...I don't remember differences between Tashi's father & Nettie--Nettie did, however, leave home when the man whom she thought was her father kept trying to have sex with her)
The lives of the Olinka were disrupted when "the white man" began tearing down their entire village and building on their land. They were left without homes, schools, churches, etc. Some, such as the "good Reverend's" wife, even die from "grief and heartache."
