Is this a parent? (that's a hard one) Is it a spouse ? You give them an ultimatum. Me or the booze. Give them 6 mos. to get their sh** together . If they don't, then leave, or you can go on suffering and living a miserable, lonely life.

Leave. This won't get any easier to deal with, and things will probably get a whole lot worse. You think you know somebody and then they become a completely different person when they drink. Why would you want to accept that this person has to be intoxicated to be in your company? That's a personal insult to you. The worse thing is that they blame it on you, because apparently they need a drink to escape the reality of being in your company. It's even worse when you start believing it, thinking it's you with the problem and not them. That's when the trouble starts.

I was brought up within an extended family where all the uncles always came home drunk - it was not an easy thing to get away from. All I can do is pray for you and hope that together we will break the vicious circle and be sure that we will never become like them. But in the short term it is a test of your mettle. The only other avenue is to find 'family refuge' organisations and seek to disown yourself from their violence.

You pack your bags take control of your own life and leave. If this person truly loves you then they will get help and stop drinking.

you do not mention they type of drink that the person you live with is drinking. Ask that person to discuss their problem with their doctor. If the person refuses, tell them to sleep elsewhere. Failing that you find somewhere else to sleep at night.

I would 'lay down the law' tell them what you expect and how it is making you feel. If they don't respect your feelings....let them go! Life should be fun, not miserable. :) Pray about it!!
