Planning our first trip to Punta Cana in Spring '07. My husband and I would like to know if there is anthing to be prepared with medication or something in the event we get sick from the food or something?

Thank you,

Use common sense , we were there for 3 wks , never got sick , dont drink the tap water , we stayed at SunScape the Beach , and they will give you all the bottled water you want , all included in price , and we never had problems with the food , take aspirin ,alka selser , pepto , band aids, etc , etc , we took a first aid kit it had every thing we may needed , we never opened , just try not to eat outside the resort , bring sunblock ,expensive $16.00 , bag of potatoes chips $6.00 , Gatorade $3.00 for 20 oz , this prices are dollars not pesos , also bring lots of dollars bills , maybe 50.00 you will need them . have FUN and ENJOY .

Based on experience- take acidophiles it helps your system adjust to the new and unusual cuisine. I made a HUGE mistake in not taking mine with and was sick (not to the point I couldn't do stuff) the last 3 days. I continually hear of people getting sick off the food in Punta Cana,at least 4 in my resort and 2 people we met were back for free because the previous year one got a parasite.... and Med care is NOT cheap. Bring your own pepto etc a bottle was $20usd in the resort, and there are no towns nearby Punta Cana isn't really a town like you would normally think and our resort was at least an 1hour + to get to any form of civilization with stores. Just be smart, choose wisely what you eat and have a good time.

I go to the DR every winter. I know many people get sick due to the change of diet but it is normaly not major at all. Just an upset stomach. I never had that problem though. Something to think about though-- DR is a poor country and they will consider you to be rich. If you really need medical care be prepared to pay for it. Carry a credit card in case an emergency should arise.

There's a packing list there : http://www.debbiesdominicantravel.com/list.html where some medication are mentioned.
I've been several times in Punta Cana and never got sick, maybe I was lucky... ;-)

Have a nice trip,

you may bypass to the Dominican Republic each time, yet eire with 4 of your maximum suitable acquaintances may well be what i might p.c.. March in the Caribbean would be a splash loopy. additionally overvalued as you assert. maximum suitable to attend, and bypass while this isn't any longer so busy in the off season. you may then get a effective motel for a decrease value. everyone looks at spring destroy in the Caribbean as occasion time. In eire daily is occasion time. No excuse or particular holiday required. bypass and luxuriate in your self. The Blarney Stone waits.
