It provided the Bush administration an opportunity to try to turn America into a fascist dictatorship and continues to test how many essential liberties and standards of decency people are willing to sacrifice to a bogus promise of security.

I do not think this is an important event. It is tragic. These people have been fighting for hundreds and hundreds of years. Who are we to go and tell them anything? If we would mind our own business and I don't mean that we shouldn't care if hundreds are killed over nothing, but I would think as American citizens we should take care of our own first. There are starving children here in US, homeless, people that have nothing, not even a bed to sleep in. Why do we sweep these people under the rug and forget them. Oh, at Christmas - the only time of year we try as a country to help our own. Wow, makes me proud...the thinking process in US citizens brains seem to be, look out for me that is all we are about - ME< ME

i agree with the first answer. the american govt showed how truly inept and unprepared they were to do anything other than throw troops at iraq, and they lost what little standing they had in the international community. this iraq war will be pointed at for years as what really made things change all aorund the world.

Its a reminder that we don't, and cant, and shouldn't think we can controll the world, and every country wants to choose their own destiny, regardless if we think its right or wrong.

It's the decline and fall of American prominence.
It should be self-evident, no explanation needed.
