The very LEAST they can do is to "comp" your entire meal--that is, not charge you for it. After all, your "dining experience" has been ruined and you may decide not to come back again, or tell your friends what a disgusting meal you had there (either way, the place could lose business) so by giving you a free meal the place is getting off quite cheap. Relax, they can afford it--unless it happens ALL of the time, and if that's the case, they shouldn't be in business.

The restaurant business depends on the good "word of mouth" advertising their patrons spread. The way I look at it, they SHOULD know if something is wrong with their food/service so they can correct it. If I had a business that depended on how happy my patrons were, I'd certainly want to know if there was room for improvement. Wouldn't you?

If this happened to you, I'm sure that you were nice and understanding about the hairy food. It can happen in the best of places, you know.

I've eaten in some places where hair in the food was an absolute bonus and tasted better than the main dish...but that's another story!

Hope this helps.

Happy Dining!

A good restaurant that understands how without customers the place would not stay open would be willing to take it back when you complain to the waitress or waiter. Any place that is willing to take your food back when you find something such as that should be smart and take it back and give you one without the hair otherwise they could be closed down or go through a massive inspection.

That's disgusting to have hair in food. The restaurant should apologize and either replace another dish or refund it to the customer.

This depends on the restaurant. Many places will offer a gift certificate or ofter a discount or even a free meal.... but don't always expect something. Sometimes they replace it or take it off your bill. You should always report it if it really bothers you. But like i said it depends on the restaurant and always ask to speak to the supervisor.

I run a restaurant and would definately replace the dish you ordered after offering an apology.

They shouldn't charge you for it, and the manager should come out and personally apologize. If it's a good restaurant that cares about it's reputation they might also provide you with a gift card.

Usually a manager will come out to talk to you and gauge your reaction. What they end up doing for you--comping your meal, giving you free desserts or gift cards--depends on how much of a fuss you put up about the whole thing.

Management should deeply apologize and do whatever the customer wants(within reason).

Give you a discount on your meal.
I found a hair in my Mahi-Mahi sandwich once. But I didn't report it.
I think they should discount yuor meal a little bit if you do report it.
