are gay men comfortable with it yet?

I'm gay and have been out of the closet for a long long time. I am comfortable holding a man's hand in public, or a quick kiss, or a hug.

I don't think displays of affection beyond this are appropriate for anyone regardless of gender.

The question isn't whether or not gay men are comfortable with it yet, the question is whether (if ever) the average Joe walking down the street will ever be comfortable with it. Of course, if you live in SF or NYC as I do, you'd better damned well be comfortable with two men showing affection or you're going to have a rough time of it. I see it every day, and you know what? The sun doesn't turn to blood, the earth doesn't open up and swallow them, and no one cares. Affection is affection, gay or straight. This will be a much happier country when the Right moves on to real issues that affect us all.

I'm gay and I just don't do PDA. I don't like when hetero couples do it and I don't like when fellow gay couples do it. (don't really know why I don't like it). The only exception to that rule is when a partner NEEDS to show affection. For example, if my boyfriend just found out his dog died I'd give him a hug... it doesn't matter if others are watching, if he needs a hug I'll be there to give him a hug... but yeah, to get back to the question... some gay men are comfortable with it, others don't want to make other people feel uncomfortable and some (like me) just don't like it.

I think alot of gay people, especially gay men, are pretty leery of it. It's a safety issue for them and even things like holding hands can get them bashed. It's unfortunate that two people of the same gender can't walk down the street holding hands or give each other a kiss goodbye without some idiots harassing them.

I think that the younger generation of gay men are more comfy with PDA than the elder generations but it has a lot to do with the community that they live in. But I also think that there should a limit for all couples on how much PDA they allow. Holding hands and little kisses are acceptable but when its two steps from what should be in the bedroom I think it is unnacceptable. But thats just me.

I think it depends on where they are at. In alot of cities it'd be ok but not out in a small town. I know my best friend is gay and him and his friends are fine with it....but they also live in Key West and there's a big gay population there.

I think any type of public display of affection from gay to straight should be kept in the bedroom and thats where it should stay. I have viewed couples in a complete make out session in front of passing children its just not the right thing for a 5 year old to be viewing. I think we should respect each other in public and do as we wish in private.
I have a hard enough time explaining to my 5 yr niece why that man and woman are kissing and touching.....then to have to explain why that man and man are kissing...
