what were the cases about and how were they solved?

RAV vs. St Paul: Busted for burning a cross on a black person's lawn, RAV was arrested for violating a local hate-speech law. RAV (a teenager and thus known by his initials) sued and the case went to the Supreme Court. The Court ruled that the law was unconstitutional because "it prohibits otherwise permitted speech solely on the basis of the subjects the speech addresses."

Tinker vs. Des Moines is a famous case about students rights. It involved students who were suspended for wearing armbands protesting the Vietnam War. They sued and won, and the case set a precedent for student's free speech rights and political rights in schools.

County of Allegheny vs. ACLU: Christian nativity scene put up by the town was challenged by ACLU as being an endorsement of a particular religion, and therefore a violation of the first amendment's Establishment Clause. The court ruled in the ACLU's favor, that the creche was tantamount to the town naming Christianity as the official religion.
