Big difference..a lot of young people do not understand the sacrifices or the history of this country where we in the 70's generation, understood it completely with parents from the WWII and Korean War.
There are exceptions with many young men and women who are sacrificing their lives for the protection of their family, friends ,and loved ones here in the USA.
Many young hippie types of the 70's and late 60's including Hillary and Bill Clinton grew up in the 70's,and did the whole free love ,free spirited 70's thing, which carried over from the 60's.
There are many talented young people out there today, but are bogged down by societies constraints of the mega Big Government rules and regulations.
The current war that is going on in the Middle East is piercing a sharp arrow through what might make the young people strive to make this country into a Great Society, with Arts,Music,Architecture and the Theater.
The best thing for a young person to do right now is to "Follow your Dreams",and do not let anything stand in your way of being what you want to be.
I just read the person's answer above me..I graduated High School in the same year ....1978.

You are here with one now. Me.
I don't see much difference, except we could drink underage, and drive drunk too.
My dad's advice was to throw the empties out of the car (into the ditch so nobody gets a flat) so if I got pulled over the police wouldn't know how many I had. ABSOLUTELY TRUE ADVICE FROM HIM, I swear.
A certain "herb" was more prevalent and more openly used. Much cheaper too. $15 for an oz. of Mexican, $30 for an oz. of Colombian.
We were less uptight about partying.
From what I hear now, most young people have been brainwashed about drinking, and smoking (anything).
I always see answers that they are evil and will kill you.
They won't, I'm still here.

was only thinking the haircuts etc are back from the 70s this morning.

I guess looks could be similar, but they would be mental and possibly physically tougher because the didnt fret about every little sniffle and cough and actually were not wrapped in cotton wool.

the latest generation should be called the cotton wool generation, parents are scared of letting kids experince life.

not to mention that we are sicker today because there is much more international travel etc and flus and other inflictions travel quickly due to the ease of airline travel not to mention the affordability of it.

my thoughts

cheers

Times now are more liberal than even they could of imagined..electronics alone have exceeded immmensely..The music has done a complete 180 from disco to whatever they call this music today..rap likely insults their
musical tastes,..materialism is at its peak now, even more than the 80's...much of the clothing styles have evolved back into some of what they wore on regular basis..war still exists, without a draft...the economy has likely put some of them in a coma..Medicine has made great strides..all in all though,we still manage to share a world of progress..=)

Well I guess that you could say that I'm from that "70's" generation. I think I'm pretty cool and open minded. I listen to the same music as my 20 something nephews and we've even borrowed CDs from each other.

I'm from the 50's generation.
My children are from the 70's generation.
My grandchildren are living with what we have all created for them.
I'm counting on there generation to pick up the pieces.

Should we blame it on Elvis the pelvis?

Their clothing and hairstyles would be different...they wouldn't be so angry and violent. More into peace and love...
