I don't think just because someone shows some skin it should be labeled as disrespect and immodesty. As for the ones that really push the limits such as Paris Hilton, then you have the answer, they're celebs and do what ever they can for some publicity. Modesty doesn't get ppl far in the entertainment business!

Girls are like apples on trees, the best ones are at the top of the tree. The boys don't want to reach for the good ones becasue they're afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they get the rotten apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples up top think that there's something wrong with them when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. So the girls dress immodestly thinking a guy will like them, when they are amazing. Only shallow guys will like you if you dress immodestly. This pretty much says it all.

Unfortunately, they do not always realize that they are disrespecting themselves by doing that. Some feel that they are simply going along with fashion.
Its not really their fault. They are bombarded with such poor examples...
For example, I took my daughter to buy some clothes a couple of years ago. Most of the clothes weren't modest. Why does a 7 or 8 year old need a mini-skirt? As if pedophiles need an excuse to leer at little girls...
Then, I was in Wal-mart a few weeks ago and saw a Barbie type doll who was dressed like a hooker. Most Barbies are aimed at 5 to 8 year olds...
Then you have "beautiful" women celebrities who dress immodestly or rather seem to forget to finish dressing before they go out.
Try watching a music video - especially pop, R&B or rap videos - with a "hot" woman in it who has all her clothes on. Most videos show scantily clad women acting sleezy or worse....
The best you can do is to dress modestly yourself, set a good example and try to explain to the girls you love why they should do so as well. Good luck.

could be a number of things, women who have no respect for themselves, tend to have backgrounds of abuse towards them, either as children or in adult relationships.
girls who dress immodestly may not be intending to look that way but they might just like the particular outfit there wearing, OR it could be a case that they are lonly and they think if they dress a certain way it might get the attention of males, there lookng for love and someone to be there for them and sometimes women think that if they dress immodestly then men will want to be with them.

It's a social thing.
America has such a diverse range of cultures that nearly anything is acceptable to someone out there. Right now the general fad is to wear minimal clothing. You call it disrespectful to oneself, but I believe many women find it empowering.
Women have been controlled and put down nearly as long as our history reaches back. In the Victorian era it was scandalous for an ankle to be showing! We women have fought for our rights. Now we are where we are and have the freedom to run around in next to nothing and not get any weird looks for it.
The other side of the arguement is that in fact women are less free than ever and such "immodest" dress is simply another way for men to control women. We are objectified and our bodies are dehumanized in order to push products. We are in a vicious race against each other to score the right men, to be prettier and sexier and more successful than other women. We have been pit against each other by a patriarchal, misogynistic society.
The short answer? You percieve it as immodest because of your upbringing. The girls of whom you speak probably do not share your feelings, therefore they are not disrespecting themselves.

The reason is simple. It all has to do with social culture. Think about it....in other countries (like the Middle East), if women were to dress as they do in countries like USA, they are going to get punished. The reason why girls are dressing like this is because society is teaching them (at a very young age) that this is sexy. This is how they think they are going to attract a mate or look "prettier" than another female. If people were taught otherwise, they would be asking the same question you are.

I think part of it is because it always seems near impossible to find modest clothes that still look good. All anyone makes these days are short, thin, see-through shirts and short shorts and things like that. You really have to look sometimes to find something modest. But I also think so of it has to do with their parents. If a parents sets an example showing a child that it is okay to wear stuff like that they will follow it. Add that to all the media these days and I think that is what it is.

Lots of people would say that it is low self-esteem, blah blah blah. I think that if someone dresses down then their problem is too much ego. People with low self-esteem do not prance around like God's gift to all and reject those who are not sexy enough. To me, it is simple attention seeking and whoring it up.
