India Cricket standard is less than S.A standard. That is all. India has to improve its play. Indians are much worried because they love cricket because that is the only sport for Indians.

Basic Reason is Loss of Form and confidence of Senior Players. Also Consistently Sehwag, Pathan and Tendulkar is failing and refusal to learn from the mistake.
Its no use in criticising Dravid Captaincy as Captain is as good as players. So in making confusion in the minds of players about their places Chappel has ruined the base of Indian Cricket and Pawar playing his politics in cricket is spoiling more.
So, Like sarawan dropped, drop sachic and co. for few matches and tell the world that they are dropped for performance and not rested, make them hungry so that they can return the way Jayasuriya has come

Solution of India defeat in odi is team work. Presently Indian team playing out of mind without any team effort. To ensure win a good team combination is must. We are lacking in this department. Players are thinking out of mind and seems coach is hammered.
11 men can win the world, a match is easily winnable if right combination and spirit shown by root players.!!!!!!!

Lots of individual players don't make a team. They have to learn concentration and bond as a team. The other thing is of course, India Cricket is politically biased and just maybe there are beter players out there than just in the snobby circle of clubs that players are choosen from now.

Stop experimentation.Let a bowler concentrate on his bowling or a batsman on his batting.examples Pathan and Shewag for their roles in reverse.
Reduce number of matches or start rotation system .Give enough rest to top players like Dravid/Tendulkar.With the talent India has we can easily make two or three teams and that way everyone the seniors and newcomers will get a chance .

A complete overhaul of the Indian Cricket Team - including captain, coach and Tendulkar. I hope Tendulkar is intelligent enough to recognize that he should retire before the World Cup. Otherwise, he will make a mockery of himself when he plays in the World Cup and will have to face the ignominy of being thrown out of Indian Cricket.

Im guessing ur referring to the series defeat in SA of which suprisingly India lost 4-0.
First and foremost India have to adopt the mentality that they have to bat for 50overs, which im sure they already do but out on the field recently it just dosn't look it does it. A good opening 15overs with the bat is so important as it sets the mentality of the innings and gets the team of 2 a good start.
Now wiv Sehwag and Sachin uv got 2 gr8 batsman, but im not sure about Mohammad Kaif at times and feel that ideally he shud b batting at 5/6, lets remember that u r missing Yuvraj who's a key member in the team and sometimes it only takes 1/2 players to be missing for a side to be vunerable. Of course uv missing Dravid as well who as well as being the captain is important to the team. Dinesh Mongia for me's another question mark, he can be a very frustrating player and is he a player that you'd want to get runs for you in the World Cup Final (im going maybe a little 2 far here) but maybe its time for a younger batsman to come in2 the side more.
But aside the bowlers havnt been gr8 economially with Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Pathan (who for me dosn't get credit he derseves) as well as Harbhajan all bowling expensivly in the series, maybe the Indian paceattack hasn't quite worked in SA as of yet but for me its a mixture of the 2 most simple things. India clearly havn't batted or bowled well and the influence of Dravid and Yuvraj missing hasn't helped them, but keep the faith it can change 4 the test series! :)

The only solutions I can think of are prepare fast and bouncy pitches in India and link the payment to the players based on
their performance.

simple answer is due to lack of proper disicipline in the team and mutual understanding between the players among themselves.players has to be sent in tht position in which they performed a lot.for example dhoni was sent one down twice & made 153&186.experiments must be made but not the team must be a experimental team.
