Last time I checked, nobody protested against Tokyopop's Rising Star of Manga contest, and apparently there's lot of non-Japanese people drawing anime-related things on Deviantart.

Or are you going to starting flaming people now?

Seriously, alot of people just love the art-form and all things oriental. Is that wrong too then?

Okay, there are two things in effect here.

First, there are the people who have creative styles genuinely influenced by anime. My generation grew up with the anime that was shown in America during the 80s and early 90s. I loved Ronin Warriors as a kid. And we continued watching it it as more was brought over. So now as we start to make our own art and stories, these influences show through.

But, on the other side, there are companies that are just trying to capture the look and feel of the anime "fad". So they produce shows that copy stylistic elements, instead of having creator driven work. It's only shameless pandering, but it's just buisness as usual for them, they chase whatever is popular, and try to co-opt it for themselves.

So you see, people can easily confuse these two. I hope this clears things up.

Its true, not all americanime is bad, but one or two of these reasons, tend to be why most is.

1. The story is lacking in detail, is uninteresting, or is nonexistent.
2. The quality of the animation is low. Especially in recent years, for example, Ben Ten: Omniverse, did they for get to pay the animator, or hire a five year old.(no offence to those who like Ben Ten, until Omniverse, so did I.)
3. The characters are underdeveloped. You can't get inside of their head, or understand their feelings.
4. Not enough time or money is put into making the opening and soundtrack. (not as important but still important, also rarely considered.)

Now, i'm not saying that no Japanime ever fails at these points(except 2) but with americanime the degree of failure is much higher. and I don't blame the artists, I blame the people who don't put enough money into it.

I agree with Jack Cain.

The Rising Star of Manga deal is totally different than what's done on television. People that draw are passionate with their art. I've purchased manga done by non Japanese artists, and I feel that their work is great. They have developed story lines and some artists have learned how to draw from going to school in Japan. Not all, but few have.

The "AmericanAnime" of today doesn't attract all the elements that Japanime has. The only series that has been successful in carrying that is Avatar: The last Airbender.

Other shows, like "Totally Spies," I feel that it is an insult to anime in general. Though the graphics are nice, I definitely hated the cliche of mall trotter girls, and the overuse of the emotional faces (ie - sweatdrop, anger patch, waterfall eyes, blush) It was using the "anime craze" as it's pawn. It does work for younger audience, but doesn't really slip past long term anime fans (teenage to adult).

"Teen Titans" had a bit more originality to me, and it wasn't as annoying as Totally Spies. Their art wasn't exactly copying anime, but they took the popularity of it into their own. It still had a good storyline, and though it was canceled on CN, I still like it.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is as close to anime as it can get. It's well developed and is a great series. I feel that with it's vast majority of its cultural references and good writers, it will continue to be successful as it airs on Nick.

Anyone who flames you for this question is an idiot, and I'm sorry if it happens, but I think it's good you asked that question. You did need an answer, though.

Because they are just upset that if they have to include american anime (is there such a thing outside "good times with weapons?") then they will have to admit that the americans do it better as evidenced in the anime "Good Times With Weapons" by Trey Parker and Matt Stone the south park episode that spoofs anime (done in anime format) but is ironically the best anime ever.

no offense to those of you who like it but to me, american anime is just not as emotional, or funny, or action filled, or romanitc(usually). i guess it's not as extreme as anime in the areas that it is in(romance, comedy, action, science fiction). and when i see american anime, it just seems like 'what are they doing. copycats' and the american drawings are usually not as unique looking. it's like 'why would they copy it if they can't do as good a job as asia'. go to an anime convention and you'll see the difference.
