"Continental" drift is the theory of plate tectonics. The plates, or the continents, are moving over the molten mantle causing plates to collide and form mountains, and spreading apart to form sea floor spreading zones where magma from the mantle reaches the surface and solidifies. Based on the surveys from instruments placed on the moon, the earth is still expanding, and thus plates will continue to move like they have for centuries more.

first you should study well because the contenental drif theory is very known for geologists but any way the theory is also known as the theory of plate tectonics and it says thet continents drift apart because new ocean forms by a process called sea floor spreading which means the contenintes moved toward each other when the old ocean between them sinks back down into the earth's interior or in a simple way the continents where like one piece which calles a jig saw puzzle and it moves apart because of the sea and it flowed away from each other and this is how the earth formed after that.
