Why is Africa poor?

Africa is poor because of the corruption in the those poor parts of Africa. I have worked in many countries in Africa where they have alot of oil and gas and the leaders of the countries are loaded, they can have anything they want but they are not interested in their people. I have been working in Angola and it is very very rich in oil but the people who live there are still sleeping rough on the beach and on the roads as there is nothing set up in Angola by the president. He keeps all the money for himself and he doesnt even live in Angola, he lives in Brazil.
It has nothing to do with us giving money to them as that wont reach the people who need it anyway as the leaders again will take the money.
They can only sort it out for themselves, which could be a long time.

"Africa" is not poor. Majority of the peasants are, but not the continent in itself. Too many natural resources to list. Oil, gold diamonds, cocoa, palm products, etc etc.
Take Nigeria for an example, the most populated country in Africa, just the revenue from oil alone is astronomical. The have all the requirments for industry, commerce and agriculture. Yet the average Joe & Jane lives from hand to mouth. It's more of a problem with non-distribution of wealth. Same old stuff, corruption, poor education leading to the 1% feast and 99% famine. Just the same old vivious cycle.

You are missing something.Go to the UN site to find the poorest countries in the world.I bet no african country will be the last on the table.Eastern and western nations are ignoring the fact that poverty is looming in their backyards.Go to Ghana and find out how people patronize music concert featuring international starts.recently,Jay-Z went to Ghana and his concert ticket was sold for $60-$100 and yet still they ran out of tickets.if the concert had been organized here in US,no one would pay that much but Africans will do.The individuals in Africa are richer than their governments all because there are a lot of corrupt people out there.I am a Ghana and i never see my country as poor because my people are not.

Because Europeans colonized Africa and basically took everything of value from the land (diamonds, gold, and people), leaving the remaining people no chief export. The colonization also divided the continent so that many groups are at war with one another that might not otherwise be.
